Police Files Chargesheet for Muzaffarnagar Violence
Several leaders of Dalit groups booked for inciting violence during protests against dilution of SC/ST atrocities Act
Muzaffarnagar: In connection with violence that broke out in Muzaffarnagar in April of this year, the police have filed a chargesheet against 37 people, including former BSP district chief Kamal Gautam and Bhim Sena district chief Upkar Bawra.
The chargesheet was filed in connection with violence during the Dalit agitation. The violence, which took place on April 2, was concentrated in the New Mandi area of Muzaffarnagar. The additional chief judicial magistrate has fixed July 17 as the date for further hearing in the case, an official said.
Police had registered a case against several leaders of Dalit and other groups for allegedly inciting violence in the region during a country-wide protest against the alleged dilution of the SC/ST atrocities Act.
